Family-owned and operated since 1980, Portrayal Press provides military vehicle collectors and enthusiasts with original and high-quality reproductions of original government publications and technical manuals. With more than 2,500 titles, Portrayal is the world’s largest source of historic U.S. Army Technical Manuals, ORD’s, and service bulletins, and has a great selection of related commercial titles from the best publishers worldwide.

When the founder of the company, Dennis Spence, decided to retire, Patrick Tipton took over the business. Portrayal is a natural fit to a lifetime passion for WWII history, airplanes, and all things mechanical (ask him, sometime, about Ford 8N tractors!). His current wrench-projects include restoring a 1943 Willys MB and a fully restored 1968 M274A2 Mule. The whole Mule project—from finding a restorable rig to the final touches—were all broadcast via Portrayal’s YouTube page. Patrick exhibits his vehicles at a variety of parades and events, but his favorite is MTA NJ Rally in Sussex, NJ.Patrick’s idea of a great day is being in the shop, covered in grease, listening to great music and tinkering with a military vehicle.

Portrayal continues to evolve with the times, using state-of-the-art copying and printing to ensures that reproduction manuals have sharp text, crisp diagrams and clear pictures.“We haven’t quite figured out a way to provide free manuals, but we are trying. We speak ‘MV’ and would love to help you with your project or information.”
