KANSAS CITY, MO. – December at the National WWI Museum and Memorial is all about the holidays. Starting with Mrs. Wilson’s Knitting Circle: Holiday Reception 2023 on Dec. 9 at 10:30, guests are invited to take in a lecture on the legacy of wartime winter and holiday traditions. The annual holiday reception will also feature warm beverages and light refreshments in the Auditorium Lobby. This event is free to attend, and all handcrafts and non-crafters are welcome.

National WWI Museum and Memorial

On Sunday, Dec. 10 at 10 a.m., there will be a screening of the 2005 Oscar-nominated film, “Joyeux Noël.” The films tells the story of the 1914 Christmas Truce between opposing soldiers on the Western Front. This event will fill up. Interested guests are encouraged to register early. Also on Dec. 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Living History Volunteer Corps will be onsite to share stories of how WWI soldiers and their families celebrated the winter holidays in “Day in the Life: The Holidays in WWI - 2023.”

Museum Members will be the focus from Dec. 4-10 as they’re eligible for a special holiday discount in the Museum Store. A “Member Insider” event will cap off the week on Monday, Dec. 11. Specialist Curator Patricia Cecil will lead an exclusive conversation about the online exhibition "Charmed Soldiers," exploring the small but potent tokens symbolizing faith, hope and luck carried by WWI servicemembers.
