Did you know the state of Missouri has dozens of military medals in its "unclaimed property" file?
Two World War I military medals found in a safe deposit box are going on display in the Missouri state museum in the Capitol building in Jefferson City.
The family of a Kansas City soldier joined State Treasurer Clint Zweifelto on June 30 to unveil the Distinguished Service Cross and a French Croix de Guerre.
The medals were awarded during World War I to Maj. Ernest W. Slusher, a surgeon who had also served in the Spanish American War. They're on loan to the state museum and will be displayed for the next six months.
The medals were turned over to Zweifel's office as unclaimed property. The treasurer's office says there are 86 military medals and honors among the unclaimed property.
The Missouri State Museum is part of the Missouri state park system. It's located in the Capitol in Jefferson City and is open to the public free of charge.
