Space Force Members will be “Guardians”
But not before rejecting the likes of “Stargazers,” “Orbitons,” and “The Final Frontiersmen”
In December 2020, Vice President Mike Pence announced members of the new service would be called Guardians. For the first year of the Space Force’s existence, however, officials called members of the new service "space professionals" while they searched for the permanent name.
That search included crowd-sourcing the question among members of the newly created branch of service. Politico recently obtained a list of 400 names considered, but rejected. That list is reproduced here:
