DENVER, Pa. _ Morphy Auctions’ fine militaria sale, held July 8-10 at the company’s Las Vegas may have featured the largest single owner collection of swords, cannons, armor, uniforms, headgear, firearms, accessories and artwork ever to be offered at auction. When the last hammer fell, this event had 116 lots realizing $2,000-$4,999; 15 realizing $5,000-$9,999; and three lots topping over $10,000. All prices reported include Morphy's 22% buyer’s premium.

This auction’s selection of hand weapons was right on target with collectors. Lot #747, an Indo-Persian tulwar, estimated at $1,000-$2,000, won the day at $32,940. Lot #793, an elaborately decorated English Napoleonic-era officer's sword and scabbard, brought $24,400. Lot #296, a marked Russian Hussar’s shasqua, extensively detailed with religious and figural references and inscriptions, realized $8,540.

Also generating uniform appeal was a vast offering of coats, vests, pants, shirts, footwear, and other military garments. Lot #616, a British General Officer’s coatee with sash realized $ 9,760.

Book Presented by Napoleon to Marshal Nay
Napoleon Bronze Bust

Military themed ephemera, artwork, and ceremonial items ranked highly. Lot #550, the book, Relation De La Bataille De Marengo, Paris, 1806, which was presented to Marshal Nay from Napoleon, was a best seller at $9,760. Lot #2072, a bronze bust of Napoleon by Renzo Columbo, fetched $5,000. And a Czar Nicholas II-era Russian presentation regimental korch dated 1887-1897 realized $7,320.

Morphy's Premier Firearms event is scheduled for July 30-31.
