Sgt. Larry Elsasser •

Larry Elsasser, of Russell, Kansas, completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., followed by military police training at Fort Gordon, Georgia. In July 1963, he arrived in Europe and was assigned to Company A, 385th MP Battalion, 7th Army in the Stuttgart, Germany, area.

He served as an MP for 6 to 8 months, before the unit realized he had worked as a mechanic before entering the service. In bad need of a motor pool mechanic, the Battalion sent Larry to wheeled vehicle school.

He returned to the same company and served the rest of his time in the motor pool. He rose to the rank of “Motor Sergeant” by the time he left the service in January 1966.
