J. Breuninger, Army Forces in Germany, used this megaphone to lecture to more than 12,000 people cruising on the Rhine River after WWI
Megaphone is tin construction and has a period, ink-written description attached to it. Tag is stamped, "J. Breuninger, APO [illeg.] Coblenz, Germany."
Joshua Cleveland Breuninger had enlisted in the the Infantry in July 1916 and served on the Mexican border until 1917 when he volunteered for service in the World War. He was in Reserve Officer Training from January 1919 to June 1919 before entering the U.S. Marine Corps. When he was discharged in 1919, he became a YMCA lecturer on the Rhine Steamer Excursions in 1920. os
